Intro

Thanks for visiting Potawatomi Creek Flutes. This site is created as an introduction to Potawatomi Creek Flutes and the music of Kelly Kiyoshk.

Potawatomi Creek Flutes is a native owned company created by accomplished native flute player and recording artist Kelly Kiyoshk from Bkejwanong, better known as Walpole Island First Nation Ontario Canada.

The Flutes

These flutes have been crafted using techniques learned over the years from various flute makers and players. The art of crafting flutes has changed over the years to a modern way using tuning instruments, gauges and machines. These flutes are crafted using some of the same techiniques. There are many flute makers across the land with many different styles of flutes. Some using exotic woods from other continents. Presently, these flutes are simply made to share and be played. They are crafted with both 5 and 6 finger holes positioned on top of the flute.

The Native American flute has been used in a number of ways by different players. Some have used it for relaxation to calm the mind, some have used it as a courting instrument when courting the opposite sex, and some have used it for professional recording purposes. Whatever the reason, the flute will have the effect of connecting the mind with the natural world. The listeners have often commented as to envisioning some kind of forest, meadow, stream or some other type of natural landscape. It is this effect that makes these kinds of flutes unique.

The uniqueness of the Native American flute is what is offered from Potawatomi Creek Flutes, sharing the beauty of its natural sound and quality of craftmanship.

The Music

Kelly Kiyoshk is an accomplished Native American Flute player. In 2005 he was nominated for a Canadian Aboriginal Music Award for Best Instrumental Album of the Year for his first album "Manido"

His newly released album "Presence of Self" was just released this year,

Kelly's music is created in a way that he describes as "traditionally", meaning that he creates his music spontaneously. He learned to play by listening and watching other flute players over the years and finally was gifted with a flute in the late 90's. Since then he has created his music and learned to craft them.
